About Me

I believe that healing trauma can be a joyful and uplifting process, and I am impassioned about helping others to experience this too.

For over 20 years I enjoyed a fast paced career in the television industry. However, after being injured in a car accident, I left my job, and refocussed my energy in a way that felt more personally aligned. Having originally completed a BSc Honours degree in Psychology, the relationship between mind and body, and emotional and physical health had been a lifelong passion.  I retrained as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner as well as in NeuroAffective Touch®. I am also a yoga & meditation teacher, and a Reiki Practitioner.

I have found the fortune in my own life experience of trauma, as these experiences now deeply inform the work I do, allowing me to understand the nuances of the physical embodiment of trauma, and to work with great empathy, compassion, and sensitivity.

I work in an intuitive way, and can integrate yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, somatic movement and touch into Somatic Experiencing sessions, depending on what feels right for you. Creating a sense of safety is always paramount.

You might already have some understanding of how your thoughts create your experience. Many people have less awareness of the role of the nervous system in creating their thoughts. By befriending and learning the language of our bodies, we can help our nervous systems regulate, and in turn change our thoughts and emotions. Experiencing this in person can be life changing.

Trauma can create contraction, fragmentation, and stagnation; emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Healing trauma allows for expansion, wholeness, and flow. It can feel like a truly wonderful return to self, and to life.

My Experience

I love learning. I love asking questions. And I love personally exploring techniques and practices. I think of it as having access to my own ‘personal laboratory’. I read a lot, and am dedicated to learning from people that I consider to have the most balanced, thoughtful, yet cutting edge approaches and interventions. However, it is not possible to work with clients from a somatic, or body-based perspective, without experiencing these interventions first hand, and crucially, without developing the ability to be present with a deeply embodied understanding of them.

I have worked with practitioners and therapists in Somatic Experiencing®, TRE® (trauma release exercises), craniosacral therapy, fascial unwinding, fascial release, Bowen technique, mindfulness, acupuncture, Qigong, breathwork, yoga, meditation, Holotropic Breathwork®, massage, Feldenkrais, Hanna Somatics, reflexology, NeuroAffective Touch®, and Structural Integration, amongst others. I have also experienced a long term psychotherapeutic relationship. I have a long standing, and personally sacred, yoga, mindfulness and meditation practice.

I know what has worked for me. I never assume that the same recipe will work for you, but my experience does mean that I approach working with clients with a sensitivity and reverent awareness of what is involved in healing through connection with the body.

I am fully insured, receive regular supervision, and I am committed to (and excited about) my ongoing professional development.
